We’ve seen tech giants update their logos from time to time. Companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Google usually do this gradually. The fact that Google has not updated its logo for many years has raised some questions.
The Google logo is still the same, but the “backup” version is also real
It was recently reported on social media that Google was testing a new logo design. It was even claimed that it offered the updated logo to some users. However, it turns out that the logo in question is not new. According to reports, this logo is being used by Googlebot as a “backup version” of the current version.
The image circulating online shows a version with less rounded letters compared to the current logo. The colors of the letters and the shape of the writing appear to be unchanged. It is only noticeable that the ‘e’ at the end is tilted sideways.
Investigations revealed that the logo was not new. It was stated that the image leaked on the internet was taken from Googlebot, the web crawling bot used by the company for searches. It was stated that Googlebot tested the real and replacement logos on websites.
The image on social media actually represents a version of the logo created with the font named “Futura”. Googlebot tests the Google logo with this font on sites that do not support images. So the leaked image is real, but it will not replace the current logo.
It is quite natural that the text-based logo looks different from the normal Google logo. This does not reflect that the company is working on a redesign, only the work of Googlebot.
Although the Google logo image caused controversy among users, there was no statement from the company. The tech giant last changed its logo in 2015 with the establishment of Alphabet.
